Micromax is set to unveil its next big smartphone dubbed as the Canvas 4-A210, by the 18th of this month. If you have already checked out their website, you will see that the said smartphone is up for pre-booking at a price of 5000 INR and it would be priced at 17,000-18,000 INR. You are required to pay the balance amount later as stated in their terms and conditions.
There is a high demand for HD display in smartphones in the Indian market. It is expected that Micromax would ship this device with 720p display, which is same as the Canvas A116 HD. The device resolution is expected to be 1280×720 px which is again same as Canvas HD.
It would be a 5.0-inch LCD display which would be LED backlit and would be based on the in-plane switching technology (IPS) which would give great viewing angles. Being an LED backlit screen, it would consume far less power than a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen.
The display is likely to have a Corning Gorilla Glass protection unlike the hard fibre protection seen on its previous cousins.
The previous versions in the Canvas series had the external body made up of plastic material which did not look much good. There were comments on the internet of it being a cheap plastic material which did not give a good feel in the hands.
The Canvas 4 is expected to arrive with an aluminium back.
Micromax Canvas 4 is expected to have a 13 MP HD camera with auto focus and LED Flash along with a BSI sensor (Back Side Illumination). A BSI sensor is a boon for people who like clicking images in low light conditions.
The camera is capable of shooting Full HD videos of 1920x1080p at 30fps (frames per second). Still images with a resolution of 4032x3224px can be easily clicked. Along with this, it is expected to have a 5MP front facing camera. It will be a 720p HD camera.
The Operating System would be Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with stock android UI out of the box. Stock android has its own advantages. It gives an unadulterated look to the user interface, and most importantly, there are less lags.
There’ll be 1GB RAM just like the Canvas HD along with an internal storage of 16GB on board. The Canvas HD on the other hand had 4GB of internal storage. External storage is via SD card upto 32GB.
Connectivity and Navigation
The said smartphone is well equipped with Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, USB 2.0 and USB On-the-go. Navigation is via A-GPS and Google Maps.
CPU, Sensors and the Battery
It would have a latest MediaTek MT6589 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor, Cortex A7 architecture with Power VR 5XT GPU. The Canvas 4 will have the proximity, accelerometer, gyro sensor and eCompass sensors.
The battery is expected to be the same old 2000 mAh Li-polymer battery (as seen in its older cousins) which can last you for one day for an average use.
What I like
- Aluminium body: because it gives a great feel and is strong
- Corning Gorilla glass: because it gives the display a tough screen protection
- 13 MP Full HD camera
What I dislike
Stock android user interface: actually, some might like the stock android UI since it gives an unadulterated look as we said above. Others like Samsung, HTC and Sony have their own UI. But you must consider that Micromax is offering you these many features at a budget price so this can be neglected.
There were many rumours online about the new specifics of the Canvas 4. It is was expected to have a 2GB RAM, 1080p Full HD display, MediaTek Octa core chipset and many other things which would give a tough competition to the Galaxy S4 in the Indian market. But the rumours are far away from the truth.
People who’d like to enjoy good internal storage and better camera should go for this device. It can be just regarded as the upgraded version of Canvas HD.
